Spectait Slashed For Ascot

Spectait has shot to the head of the market for Saturday's totesport Victoria Cup after notching an impressive victory at Kempton.

Sir Mark Prescott's charge ran out a six-length winner of the seven-furlong Wednesday Evening Series Handicap under Seb Sanders after being held up in the early stages.

Ladbrokes now go 4-1 from 14-1 about the four-year-old's chances in the Ascot event, with Notability next best on 7-1.

Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams said: 'The way Spectait demolished the field on the all-weather at top weight suggests we may well be looking at another classic handicap coup from Sir Mark Prescott's yard.

'We know he'll act on the ground and providing he makes it to Ascot, he'll still be well in with the handicapper.

'His performance this afternoon was nothing short of sensational.'

One horse unlikely to be lining up is the Pat Eddery-trained Visionist.

The four-year-old was a 16-1 chance after winning at Kempton last month, but he has suffered a setback and Eddery will now try to prepare him for Royal Ascot.

'I think he would be a doubtful runner as he's pulled a muscle, so we'll just have to wait a bit longer with him,' Eddery told Racing UK.
