Sam Ewing came in for a winning spare ride aboard 1/5 favourite Speculateur in the Enda McGoldrick, Plant & Agri Maiden Hurdle over two and a-half miles at Sligo.

Jack Kennedy was originally down to ride five-year-old grey gelding, but missed his mounts at Sligo this evening due to being sore.

Speculateur and Tradonthebay were upsides each other at the head of affairs but, upon touching down, Tradonthebay came under pressure as Speculateur tanked along.

The short-priced favourite soon asserted and was far from troubled in easily winning by five lengths over Tradonthebay (22/1 - 12/1). Red Or White completed the placings in third at 14/1.

Ewing said: "It was very plain sailing. He'd a good few placed efforts in nice maidens. This level of competition wasn't of the same standard, and he made light work of it.

"He's a super jumper and hopefully can go on from this.

"The ground is riding a lot different from the official description. It's fairly dead and I would definitely call it yielding."

Speculateur gave Gordon Elliott an across-the-card double as Hygge (20/1) also scored on the level in Killarney.
