Spencer 'might' return to the saddle Jamie Spencer could possibly return to the saddle in the next few years, Qatar racing manager David Redvers has suggested. Classic-winning rider Spencer, 34, stunned the racing world on Thursday when announcing he would retire at the end of the season, when he will take up a management role in Sheikh Fahad's powerful operation. Redvers, revealing he was as "surprised as anyone" at Spencer's announcement, said: "It was absolutely Jamie's decision to call it a day. "His reasoning was he didn't want to be one of those dads who didn't see their kids grow up and the life of a jockey is hard, they are always on the road. "In time I'm sure Jamie will give his reasons, but I was as surprised as anyone." He went on: "I'm delighted that I get to continue working with him as it is a pleasure. "Don't for one minute think he will be sitting with his pipe and slippers, though. "There is plenty for him to do, the admin for an operation the size of ours is enormous and we already have a very good team sorting that. "There will be something for him to do all the time and I'm looking forward to continuing our association. "Maybe, in two or three years time he might want to make a comeback if he misses it, who knows." Andrea Atzeni will take on the role of Qatar number one from January 2015, supported by Oisin Murphy.
