Spencer faces a long suspension

Jamie Spencer faces a lengthy suspension after being referred to the Jockey Club by stewards at Lingfield yesterday.

The young Tipperaryman, who completed a century of winners for the year earlier this month, was found guilty of irresponsible riding of a minor nature when riding Tarboush, who finished second to Reef Diver in the attheraces.co.uk Conditions Stakes.

But having already accumulated a total of 18 days` worth of suspensions over the past 12 months, the matter was referred to the Jockey Club`s Disciplinary Committee.

Other jockeys who have been referred to Portman Square under the 'totting-up' procedure in the past have tended to be hit by bans of at least a fortnight and Spencer can expect a similar punishment if found guilty.
