Spindleberry a class act on return Spindleberry didn’t need to engage top gear to make a winning return in the TA Morris Memorial Irish EBF Mares Chase at Clonmel. Willie Mullins’ charge, winner of the Grade 1 WillowWarm Gold Cup when last seen at Fairyhouse at Easter, went to post a 2/5 shot in the Listed contest. Paul Townend popped out in front on the Policy Maker mare and asked her to stretch after the second last. The hotpot was good over the final fence as she went on to record a cosy two-length success over Kilbarry Saint. Bioluminescence, who finished back in third, wasn’t done any favours by the loose horse going to the second last but never looked like getting on terms with the easy winner. Townend said:- "We went slow, she was idle in front and we dashed for three furlongs - that is what it was but she is very straightforward. “It was a brilliant starting point on ground which wasn't bottomless and while she was ready to run, will improve from it. "She is just a very good racehorse but you wouldn't come back in trip with her. She is an easy ride which would also give her a chance at staying further distances. "Her hurdle form was good but had to drop back to two miles a few times and has taken to fences really well and has matured." Paddy Power made the winner 7/2 co-favourite (from 5/1) for the Mrs Paddy Power Mares Chase at Cheltenham. (Quotes by Tom Weekes)
