Spinning Web proved that an extended two-and-a-half-miles wasn't beyond him in the Leugh Beginners Chase at Thurles as he made the best way home from the last fence.

He crept into contention for Donagh Meyler and the pair made good headway in second racing to the final fence.

The five-year-old gelding got on terms with Ballybrittas in jumping and landed on a lovely stride to soon take over on the run-in.

He kept on well to see it out by a length and a-quarter at 11/2 from Ballybrittas (17/2). Beggars Rock (11/2) was another two and a-half lengths back in third.

Mags Mullins said: "I'm delighted for Jerry Ahern, who is involved in the syndicate, (he) is one of our local vets and is a gentleman.

"He is a consistent old horse and better ground helps, even though they had it watered well.

"Danny (Mullins) had choice and while he ran well (on sixth-placed Colonel Nelson , just faded and maybe wants further."

Spinning Web has a Tipperary maiden hurdle in the book in addition to a Dundalk handicap on the Flat.
