The Voltigeur Stakes at York next month could be an option for Sprewell who is on the easy list after disappointing in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

The Jessica Harrington-trained colt entered the classic picture when landing the Group 3 Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown and didn’t enjoy much luck in running when staying on into fourth behind Auguste Rodin in the Betfred Derby at Epsom.

The son of Churchill was hampered when San Antonio suffered a fatal injury on the approach to the straight at the Curragh and could only manage sixth of the eight finishers.

“He’s a little bit stiff and sore. He did get galloped into the back of but everything seems to be ok on xrays and scans. Hopefully it is just bruising and we’re giving him some easy days,” Mrs Harrington’s daughter Kate told the Nick Luck Daily Podcast.

“Shane felt that when he got the bang into the back it just took him off his stride for a bit coming down the hill and he never got back up into top gear.

“He’s having an easy time for a few weeks and he has an entry for the Voltigeur in York towards the end of August so that could be potentially an aim.

“He has a few other options in Ireland as well.”
