Longacre Square made a winning start in handicap company when running out a game winner at Downpatrick.

The Denise Foster-trained gelding was sent to post a 12/1 shot in the Christine Henderson Is Sixty Handicap Hurdle having been in the money in a few maidens hurdles.

He was driven into contention going to the last, by Bryan Cooper, and got the better of Call The Fairies soon after the final flight.

The Jeremy gelding stuck on well up the hill and repelled the late challenge of Silvertown to record a half length win.

Assistant trainer Ian Amond said: "He stuck at it well, he probably wants a trip like that. Bryan thought going out that were going to go a good gallop, so it worked out well for him as he stayed going.

"He should win another one of them through the summer hopefully.

"He battled well and stayed going well, so he will definitely get a bit further.

"A good bunch of lads from Dublin own him (We Are Going To Do It Syndicate), so hopefully they got a kick out of it."
