Steinbeck well beaten in America

Steinbeck could finish only sixth in Saturday's Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratago.

Ballydoyle's colt, fourth in this season's Irish 2000 Guineas, beat just two home in the Grade Two challenge in America.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old, ridden by Garrett Gomez, soon faded fast around the home bend and was just under 10 lengths in arrears of A Little Warm, the impressive winner.

Former Andre Fabre inmate Proviso completed a Grade One hat-trick on the same card.

Now in the care of William Mott, the five-year-old mare prevailed in a pulse-chasing finish to the Diana Stakes over nine furlongs.

Mott said: "We've won three Grade Ones this year, so I suppose the heat is off.

"Hopefully the rest is just fun and gravy."
