Strawberrydaiquiri gains success at Ascot Strawberrydaiquiri (9-2) prevailed by the narrowest of margins over last year's winner Spacious in the Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot. Ryan Moore took his tally to the week to two following his win aboard Rainfall in the opener, and he soon adopted a prominent position in the middle of the track aboard the four-year-old. James Fanshawe's Spacious arrived upsides two furlongs out and appeared to be going much the better, even hitting the front under Johnny Murtagh. However, Sir Michael Stoute's filly showed a fantastic attitude to get back in front where it mattered to win by a short head. The favourite Antara was another three lengths away in third. Stoute said: "Ryan was very clever to do what he did because we would have loved a lead, that's how we've always ridden her. "He grabbed the initiative and she showed her tenacity. I'm thrilled for his owners the Jacobs family." He went on: "She's a tough filly. We usually ride her dropped in, but Ryan was worried about getting pace so he wanted to lead. "The next step will be 10 furlongs. "It's so sad Mr Jacobs is not here with us as he invested a hell of a lot." Moore added: "She tries very hard and was game at Newmarket. "They got very close and when I did ask her she found a little bit more." Fanshawe said of the runner-up: "I'm very proud of Spacious and it was a hell of a battle. "I thought we were getting the upper hand with half a furlong to run but the other horse got the upper hand at the line. "She's run a cracker and I can't complain about that." Saeed bin Suroor said of Antara: "She has run a big race but just met two better fillies. "She'll have a break now and is a filly for the future." Fanshawe was also responsible for fourth home Alsace Lorraine and added: "Alsace Lorraine also ran a very good race. Obviously it was a big step up in class and ideally she would like a bit more give in the ground, but she's run very well."
