Sublime Weld has the Talent

The seven day racing bonanza that is the Galway Festival gets underway on Monday evening, and Ballybrit legend Dermot Weld relies on Sublime Talent in a bid to land the opening night feature carlton.ie/galwaycity (QR) Handicap for an amazing fourth successive year.

The Rosewell House maestro added to his superb record at this venue 12 months ago when saddling Ghimaar to land the race formerly known as the “GPT”. This followed previous victories by Loyal Focus and Majestic Concorde in the two mile event.

Others to note among a maximum field of 20 are the Willie Mullins-trained Ballyhaunis, Galianna from the inform Pat Flynn yard and the Jessica Harrington trio Fantoche, Dreamy Gent and Zarinava.

Weld will also aim to extend his domination of the two-year-old maiden with A Word Apart. The Moyglare Stud Farm colt caught the eye on his Curragh debut last month when staying on nicely behind Sydney Harbour.

The ground has dried up considerably in recent days after fears conditions would be testing due to heavy rain earlier in the week. The going is currently described as good to yielding (yielding in places).
