Market Rasen’s Summer Plate Chase-winner Ballysax Hank (5s to 11/4) scored on Flat debut today, landing Gowran’s concluding Racing Again September 20th Maiden for Gavin Cromwell, Gary Carroll and owner Paul Byrne.

Winner of £56,950 first-prize in July, Cromwell’s charge today raced with the leaders and while under pressure early in the home straight, produced a good staying effort to score by a half-length from Seo Linn

Afterwards Carroll stated “I thought we rolled away nice and even but I was probably at the pin of my collar most of the way. Once I got rolling down the hill, he really hit the line strong and when he hit the front, had a good look. It turned into a stamina test which play to my strengths.

“He’s a lovely horse and I’m sure Paul Byrne has a new Flat campaign planned out for him. He’ll go back over jumps and he’ll mix it now.

“Something like the November Handicap could suit, although you need to qualify for that. Two miles would be right up his street and on softer ground again. With a bit of luck there is more to come.”
