Sunny South West stamped his authority on the bumper in Tipperary by making all to come home by eight and a-half lengths.

The 5/6 favourite moved clear over a quarter of a-mile out and didn't relent as he ran on well in the hands of Adam Ryan. Angelo Dundee returning off a long absence, took the runner-up berth and was two lengths in front of Delta Force (10/1).

Sunny South West was far from outclassed in fifth in a Grade 1 bumper at the Punchestown Festival. Prior to that, he won a bumper in Clonmel.

Eddie Power said: “He’s a lovely horse with a very high cruising speed. In a perfect world something would go on a right good gallop and he could settle in behind. He was even a bit keen there today.

“Everybody thought I was a bit mad going for the big race in Punchestown, but I knew he was good enough. The race didn’t pan out as planned as they went very slow, and he was dropped in.

“He still ran a good race and came out of it fresh and well, so we lined him up for today.

“He might get a bit of a break now and come back over hurdles during the summer. He jumps very well, so hopefully that won’t be an issue.”
