TG4 to broadcast Dubai World Cup

TG4 has confirmed that for the seventh consecutive year the station will broadcast the richest day's racing in the world from the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on Saturday afternoon 30th March.

Eight races in total will be broadcast live during the five ½ hours of coverage and TG4 viewers will get a chance to experience the atmosphere, get updates from the parade ring, catch up on all the latest racing news, interviews, features as well as all the news from Meydan. The Dubai World Cup Carnival reaches a climax with the world's richest horse race as the Dubai World Cup from Dubai Racing Club offers 10 million dollars in prize money.

Live coverage from Meydan Racecourse in Dubai of the 18th running of the richest horse race in the world - the meeting comprises of nine races of varying purses totalling a staggering US$27.25 million. The big race of the day at 6:05pm (Irish time), the Dubai World Cup, worth US$10 million, is classified as a ‘Group 1 Flat Race’ previously run on dirt for four-year-old thoroughbreds and above, and spans a distance of 2000m (one mile, two furlongs). In 2010 the event relocated from Nad Al Sheba to the new Meydan Racecourse and it also marked the first year the race was run on an all weather surface, tapeta.

Godolphin-owned horse, Monterosso, ridden by Mickael Barzalona won the 2012 Dubai World Cup.
