Tashakour was strong in the market all day for the Welcome To Cork Racecourse Mallow Maiden and his backers were rewarded with a two-and-a-quarter-length success.

He came home with a real flourish to claim Suspicious Mindz inside the final furlong and the 5/4 favourite (from 5/2 in the morning) readily swept in for Ben Coen.

Suspicious Mindz had to settle for second at 9/2 with Nil Bua Gan Dua more than three lengths away in third at 9/4 having been unable to go with the front pair in the final furlong.

Johnny Murtagh said: He had a great run in Navan last month and I thought he'd appreciate the better ground here.

"I was hopeful, but they went very slow and it turned into a bit of a sprint, although he was able to pick them up. Ben felt he hit the line well and a mile is a good trip for him at the moment.

"We'll take our time with him, he puts a lot into his races and we'll go in small steps.

"He is a nice horse, is by the right sire (Night Of Thunder) and he has a chance."
