Team horses to follow: 'He looks a main contender in an Albert Bartlett' By Niall TierneySpeaking on this week's Irish angle, our team discussed the excellent racing throughout Ireland and the UK over the weekend and Emma, Johnny and Paddy all picked one from the pack as their horse to follow from this weekend. Paddy Flood Paddy looked at the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle that was claimed by Doctor Steinberg on Saturday, he was an impressive winner for the Willie Mullins and Danny Mullins combination. Danny Mullins kept it extremely simple throughout allowing his mount to stride forward and when asked to pick up the horse replied well. He looks a main contender in an Albert Bartlett that is so far this season, lacking in some quality “I’m going to go with a horse that won on Saturday in Navan for Willie Mullins, Doctor Steinberg. He probably wasn’t the flashiest bumper horse, but he did win a bumper and then a maiden hurdle. He jumped really well in Navan on heavy ground and powered to the line. "He still looks a little bit raw and green, so I think he could be a good horse going forward.” Johnny Ward Johnny looked at the opening race in Cork Racecourse last Sunday where he saw an eye-catching 3rd in Dawn Coming and feels the horse could be targeted at a Cheltenham Festival Handicap. “The horse I’m going to give, ran in Cork. Even though his name is Dawn Coming, he’s actually not by Dawn Approach. The dam was by Dawn Approach. "Dawn Approach, who was kind of a funny sire, has gotten the odd very good horse, but I think he’s a €5,000 sire. He was the sire of the winner Glen to Glen, who was the apparent second string for Joseph. "It was a dramatic race because I think the likely winner came down, in fairness, Jack Kennedy's horse - Manoir De Mirande. “But Dawn Coming, for me, was a big price, but he looked a very interesting buy. I think he came out of Jim Bolger’s and went to Charles Byrnes for Pauline Twiss. "I think this could be a lovely three-year-old. He’s by Make Believe, who is a really solid sire, and it was a lovely start - the way he travelled in the race, beaten two lengths at 28/1. "It will be fascinating to see what Charles Byrnes does with him. Will he be a Fred Winter horse or something like that? But a lovely start to hurdling in what was quite a good maiden hurdle.” Emma Nagle Emma looked at the Grade 2 Novice Chase in Cork and selected the winner Kala Conti as her choice, who was an impressive 19-length winner and is 2/2 over fences. and looks extremely promising going forward for the Robcour Team. “My one probably isn’t as exciting as yours, but I just thought Kala Conti for that Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham might be worth a little bit of ante-post support. "I think she can be backed at as big as 8/1 now. She was a very good hurdler - I think rated around 145 over hurdles - and as we spoke about earlier, she just seems to have improved for fences. "She’s not the biggest, but she’s very honest and jumps very well. Her beating Kargese was very impressive at the weekend, and even stepping up to that two-and-a-half-mile trip again, she should be even better. So down that Mares’ Chase route, she could definitely be one who will do a good job for Gordon.” Watch the full Irish Angle show
