Television deal still in balance

Discussions between the British Horseracing Board and officials from Go Racing continued late last night as the two groups tried to hammer out a deal.

The future of the media rights agreement which involves 49 British racecourses, was still hanging in the balance as leading officials from both parties attempted to reach an agreement before a midnight deadline imposed by Go Racing.

Go Racing need to secure a licence if it is to use pre-race data - for example, details of future runners and riders - on any new website and betting product. Unless an agreement is reached over licensing of the data to support the 10-year contract for picture rights already agreed by the 49 tracks, vital funding from Arena Leisure, part of the Go Racing partnership, could be refused by Arena`s shareholders.
