Admiral mare The Bog Bank (12/1) registered an eighth career win today in Gowran’s Societies Welcome At Gowran Park Apprentice Handicap, as the Tom McCourt-trained eight-year-old scored under jockey Sam Coen.

The Bog Bank’s initial success came in June 2022 and while her rating has peaked at a high of 72, today scored her second success of the year when scoring from a mark of 59, in a tight finish from Slaney Swagger

Coen, whose cousin Ben Coen was earlier successful on Take Charge Star said “she’s as genuine as you get, she was good and tough the whole way up that straight. I got headed by Paddy Harnett (on Slaney Swagger) on my outside, but she battled back hard and galloped all the way to the line.

“I got a lovely position from stall 18, I jumped and went forward and she’s good and hardy. Tom (McCourt) said to give her space because she doesn’t like being covered up so I kept her wide.

“We fancied her today, dropping back in grade and she loves that ground."
