The Lovely Man led home a 1-2 for trainer Gavin Cromwell in the 3m Irish Stallion Farms EBF Handicap Chase at Navan this afternoon.

The 5/1 chance was patiently ridden by Keith Donoghue but needed to be rousted along to reel in stablemate Evies Vladimir before the last.

The son of Mastercraftsman drew clear in the closing stages to score by five lengths, with Showurappreciation a further four lengths back in third.

Cromwell said, “He did (get the three miles nicely), but Keith gave him a lovely easy ride and he snuck around on him. He got it nice and smooth, and he jumped very well.

"Hopefully (more options now), I suppose we are going to be up to a mark now that he would get into the bottom of a nice race. It was a nice race to win today, a 20 grand race, nothing wrong with it.”

On the runner-up, he added: “He was an improver from the last day and stayed going well."
