Leigh Roche doubled up in Tramore when riding bottom-weight The Truant to victory in the two-mile handicap for Paul Flynn.

The eight-year-old gelding sprang a 25/1 surprise when staying on well in the final furlong to hit the front in the closing stages.

He soon went on and increased the margin to almost three lengths at the line over Shoda the 10/11 favourite. Not Just Any Eagle attracted plenty of support and gave his backers a place dividend at 6/1.

Roche said: "He is genuine. He jumped and travelled well. I knew he was going to stay.

"Dylan (Browne McMonagle on Shoda) was probably going better than me and from two furlongs down I thought he was going to pick up and go away, but I think my lad just outstayed him in the end.

"He is as game as a pebble and genuine and that's what got him through it. I had never ridden him before, so I've a 100 per cent strike rate on him now!"

Roche also scored on Chica Guerrera for Mark Fahey.
