The ground is good to soft for opening day The going at Cheltenham has been described as good to soft, good in places at 10am this morning. Simon Claisse, Cheltenham's Director of racing said: "The ground is going to dry out a little bit, but there's plenty of moisture in there so I don't anticipate the Old Course getting significantly drier. We will have 120 horses racing over it so they will bring more moisture to the surface. "The New Course, which we use on Thursday and Friday, might dry out a little more. "We are due some rain later in the week, with two to three millimetres forecast on Thursday. At this stage I am informed that we may get a further three to four millimetres during racing on Friday, but I don't expect it to change the ground to any huge extent.
