Theatre Guide turns on the style in BetBright

Theatre Guide continued Colin Tizzard and Paddy Brennan's big-race love affair with Kempton when he ran out a convincing winner of the BetBright Chase.

Carrying the same Jean Bishop colours as King George hero Cue Card, the 6-1 chance was held up in midfield by Brennan as a fierce contest for the lead was fought out by Tenor Nivernais and Ziga Boy.

Le Reve edged into the lead turning for home, but Theatre Guide had made ground on the outside and shot clear after the second-last, eventually coming home 10 lengths ahead of Opening Batsman.

Roc d'Apsis was a further three-quarters of a length back in third, while favourite Thomas Brown never looked comfortable at the rear of the field and unshipped Noel Fehily at the 11th fence.

Brennan said: "He was awesome today, it worked out brilliantly.

"He has so much confidence in himself, and a big thanks today goes to Tom George. I couldn't ride him the last day and I promised the owners I would today, then Roc d'Apsis won well and got into the race, so I owe this to Tom George. "

Brennan rode Gold Cup hope Cue Card in a piece of work at the track before racing, and added: "I was like a kid in a sweet shop, I was buzzing and it helped me on this fella, I was so full of confidence."

Tizzard said: "To win a £100,000 race like that is beyond our expectations. We thought we had him right, and I said when the media were down this week that he'd worked with Cue Card and finished a bit closer than he usually does.

"He was good today, really good."

The Dorset trainer said of Cue Card: "You all saw what he did today, it was just a canter round but he was bouncing afterwards and we had a job to hold on to him in the stables. He loved it today.

"He's in good form, I can't believe it really. If he stays like this for three weeks it will be all right!"

Bishop, whose husband Bob passed away just four days after the King George, said: "It's very sad, but we move on and I'm sure he's watching down on us. He wouldn't want us not to do anything, I bet he's saying 'go on, enjoy it'."
