Theodorico was a warm order in the Tote sponsored nursery at Leopardstown but had to work hard to get the job done.

Kevin Manning tracked the leaders on the even-money shot (9/4 in morning) but he was rowing along turning for home.

The Godolphin colt worked his way into the lead over a furlong out and stuck on well for a half-length verdict over Orangey Red in the seven-furlong contest.

"He may not have faced up to the cheek-pieces. They were no help to him," revealed trainer Jim Bolger afterwards.

"That's the minimum trip for him. I don't think the ground is a factor - he'll go on any ground.

"The next time we'll see him is a Derby trial hopefully."
