Thornton's bid for 1,000 delayed Andrew Thornton is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing his left arm in a fall at Fontwell on Tuesday. The 42-year-old veteran of the weighing room sustained the injury in a tumble from Head Spin at the second-last in a staying handicap chase at the Sussex venue. "I went to Thatcham for an X-ray and they confirmed I've fractured my left arm and have joined the list of crocked jockeys," he said. "I'm going to see the consultant, Mr (Michael) Foy, just to decide whether I need an operation or anything like that. "They said I'll be out for about eight weeks, but I'll see Mr Foy and be guided by him. "He's seen me plenty of times over the years, so I'll see what he says. I'm sending him a DVD so he can have a look at it and see what needs to be done." The Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning rider is just 16 winners short of joining the elite 1,000 club and is as determined as ever to reach the magic landmark despite this latest setback. "It's part and parcel of the job and it's only slowed (me) down temporarily," said Thornton. "I'll be raring to go and will have the bit between my teeth."
