Thornton's stayer Boxes on well in Ulster Ces Boxing Great and Zoffman fought out a good finish to Down Royal’s Grant Thornton Ulster Cesarewitch over an extended two and a quarter miles. It was the former, sent off the 10/3 favourite, who just got the upper hand close home to score by a neck in the hands of Adam Caffrey. The six-year-old by Midi, successful at Leopardstown on his previous start, is trained for the Gibneys Racing Syndicate by Karl Thorbton who led up his charge. "Karl gave me a buzz Saturday evening to ride him work Sunday morning down the Curragh,” said Caffrey. “I had no problem getting up a bit early on my Sunday off to go down and ride him work. He felt great and I knew I was coming here with a big chance. "He did (well to win in Leopardstown) and he is improving with every run. I know he is a six-year-old, but he is still fairly green and raw having done so little early in his career. He is really only coming to himself now. "I got a lovely posi and I was always fifth or sixth. I was probably just trying to get on the tail of something coming down the hill, just to bring him all the way, because I knew he was still quite raw and green. "He's an out-and-out stayer. He's sharpening up with every run, and I don't see why if there was a race for him over a little bit shorter, he couldn't be competitive in it." Additional reporting by Michael Graham
