Andrew Thornton is hoping to be back in action next month despite still suffering excruciating pain which has left him on the sidelines for over two months.

He took a number of falls in the autumn and hasn't ridden in public since making the frame aboard Seriatim in a handicap chase at Down Royal on November 1.

"I've put a disc out in my neck and two discs in my lower back. I'm in constant pain as the discs are bulging out against nerves, and it's very hard to sleep," explained Thornton.

He added, "I've had injections to try and relieve the pain, and am going for another on my neck and back again on Thursday. I've taken the advice of Dr McGoldrick and hopefully it will work this time and I can get back riding next month.

"I've been out for a long time but it's very hard to do any exercise and even when I try to swim I'm like a stone and sink to the bottom!"
