Topper Thornton bounced back to form to run out a convincing winner of the three-mile handicap chase at Down Royal this afternoon.

Colin McBratney 's charge pulled up on his last outing at Thurles but better was obviously expected today with the gelding attracting support from 14/1 this morning into 8/1.

Adrian Heskin held his mount up before taking closer order three from home. He launched his challenge at the next and gained the advantage before the last fence.

The Double Eclipse gelding stayed on strongly on the run-in to record a five-and-a-half length success over Kilford 2/1 favourite Altiepix faded into fourth after holding every chance two out.

“He did it well. The last day was a no go. He hated the sticky ground and never travelled or jumped.,” said McBratney.

“He was also nearly carried out at the top of the hill by a horse that Adrian rode that day.

"I'm well pleased. The intention was to give him a break now. He likes it round here."
