Three Irish trained winners in Cheltenham

With all eyes on Ascot in the UK today there was also racing at Cheltenham where three Irish trained horses tasted success.

The progressive Gillian Callaghan trained Ongenstown Lad took the spoils in very impressive fashion in the opening novice hurdle over 3m 1f.

Ridden by Keith Donoghue the 7yo son of Bach led after the third last and went clear after the next coming home a very easy seventeen length winner at the odds of 5/2 joint favourite.

The other 5/2 joint favourite Catcherinscratcher for Henry De Bromhead and Andrew Lynch finished way back in fourth while Gordon Elliott's Manger Hanagement at 4/1 finished a place further back in fifth.

Carribean Sea at 50/1 for John 'Shark' Hanlon finished last of the eight finishers while his other runner Trabajo at 8/1 fell at the eighth flight.

In the third race on the card, the Masterson Holding Hurdle over 2m, Kalann at 7/1 for Sabrina Harty and Mick Darcy ran out an impressive fourteen length winner while the 9/4 favourite Plan A for Gordon Elliott and Paul Carberry pulled up.

There was better luck for John Hanlon in the last where his Clondaw Warrior at 5/2 under Paul McMahon ran out a game winner of the bumper holding off 40/1 shot Catch Tammy by a neck.

The Tom Taaffe trained Alexander Nevsky finished back in fourth at the odds of 11/4 under Ruby Walsh.
