Thurles gets two new dates

Irish racing is set to return this weekend following a fortnight on the sidelines due to snow and frost as Horse Racing Ireland today rearranged the two Thurles meetings previously lost to the wintry weather.

The hurdle meeting scheduled for Thursday 14th January will now take place on Saturday 16th January, while the all-chase card fixed for Friday 15th January has also been put back two days and will be run on Monday 17th January.

Original entries stand for both meetings, with fresh declarations for Saturday's meeting closing by 10am on Friday 15th January. The time of the first race will be at 12.55 pm.

Declarations for the all-chase meeting next Monday will close by 10am on Sunday 17th January, and the action will get underway at 1.25 pm.

Thurles Manager Pierce Molony has suffered a frustrating time with the weather over the past week but was in upbeat mood this afternoon.

“A lot of the hurdle track is raceable now. There are still a few hard bits but I'm confident that will all be gone by Friday. There was an awful wind-chill here yesterday which set us back a bit but it's totally different today as we have a bit of fog and the temperature is plus 4C.”

“We may get a touch of frost tonight but the forecast temperatures for the next few days are reasonable. I'm confident we'll be okay,” added Molony.
