Thurles latest victim of cold spell Thursday's meeting at Thurles was cancelled this afternoon after officials inspected the Co. Tipperary track and found it to be unfit for racing due to frost. The prolonged cold spell is playing havoc with the racing schedule as Fairyhouse on New Year's Day and the Naas meeting fixed for yesterday were also called off due to the extreme temperatures. Punchestown is also reported to be currently unfit for racing ahead of their meeting on Saturday, and the situation will be monitored by Turf Club officials. The turf programme in Britain is also badly hit this week, with all meetings scheduled up to and including Wednesday already adandoned. Prospects for Huntingdon's meeting on Thursday are described as "pretty bleak", with an inspection scheduled for 2pm on Tuesday, while Fontwell's card on Friday hinges on Wednesday's 3pm check. Officials at Wincanton will also stage an inspection on Wednesday, an hour earlier than Fontwell, to assess the prospects of racing on Saturday.
