Tiara third to Kid Kid Cassidy got the better of hot-favourite Sire De Grugy in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on Sunday. The 4/1 chance was held up by Tony McCoy and he jumped a great deal better than Sire De Grugy who made a couple of significant mistakes. Still, Gary Moore's horse was leading jumping the last, but he couldn't hold off the winning charge from Kid Cassidy, who was three and a quarter lengths clear at the line. "I'm pleased for the horse, he's had plenty of problems and you need to get him relaxed," said McCoy, who laughed off suggestions he could be a Champion Chase horse. "The conditions of this race were in his favour and he couldn't win the Grand Annual so I don't think Sprinter Sacre's got anything to worry about." Kid Cassidy (4-1) wore down Sire De Grugy on the run-in to claim the Shloer Chase. Tony McCoy bided his time on the Nicky Henderson-trained seven-year-old as Sire De Grugy set sail for home after Special Tiara had made the running. The 18-times champion jockey delivered the J P McManus-owned gelding after the last to collar Gary Moore's 5-6 favourite and win by three and a quarter lengths. It was a remarkable win for a horse who almost died after being electrocuted at Newbury in February 2011 and suffered a bad fall at Lingfield that November. "This horse has got plenty of ability and he likes a bit of dead ground as well," McCoy said. "He's a free-running horse early in his races, you just have to relax him and get him to enjoy it. You have to hold on to him and help him come home. "It's nice for this horse to win. He hasn't had the most straightforward life. "It helped they went a nice gallop and I didn't have to rush him down the hill." Henderson said: "It's nice to see him win a good race because he does deserve one. His life hasn't exactly been overkind to him in a lot ways. Some parts of it have been his own fault, and some not. "He has been more settled this year and had a wind operation in the summer. "He's always had a good prize in him. I think he will get further. It's all about settling him." Sire De Grugy's rider Jamie Moore said: "He got beat by a better horse. He didn't get into a rhythm but it's gutting as he's probably not as good as we thought." In contrast, Henry de Bromhead was happy with the performance of Special Tiara. He said: "He stayed on up the hill and I'm delighted with him. It was a blinder for his first spin around here and Noel [Fehily] was sitting on him for the first time. He jumped a bit big early, but we know he's a better horse on faster ground."
