Having registered her sole previous success at the same venue, Step Back In Time doubled her career tally when staying on in determined fashion to land the opening Return Of The Flat At Navan Handicap.

Prominent throughout under Colin Keane, the 9/2 chance held a definite advantage over veteran Stanhope after a couple of furlongs.

Despite the latter throwing down a strong challenge under Keithen Kennedy, the Chris Timmons trained seven-year-old found plenty for pressure to ultimately run out a comfortable one-and-three-quarter lengths winner.

Stanhope stayed on well to hold second, with Navorrosse running on late to take third.

Chris Timmons said: "She travelled really well and Colin said she was in her comfort zone all the way.

"She had slipped down to a very competitive mark and it is good for her confidence to get her head in front.

"She has won and been placed here before.

"We always thought she would probably do better than she has done so far, but last year just didn't go to plan.

"She came back to us this year looking great and we have been very happy with her.

"I think the ground was just too soft for her in Naas the last time, but she appreciated the better ground here today.

"I think that is Colin's fifth winner for us - he is going for the championship, so we don't like to cost him winners! We try and give him a few if we can."
