Tofino uses every yard in Curragh to get off the mark Tofino absolutely lined it to nail the luckless Goldmoyne in the Robbie Dolan Melbourne Cup Winner Handicap over a mile in the Curragh. Goldmoyne looked all over the winner entering the final furlong as he had the field on the stretch, however, Gary Carroll conjured up a rattling finish from Tofino who only ever led on the line. She prevailed by a head at 11/1 for Gavin Cromwell with runner-up Goldmoyne going off at 14/1. That pair had the first and second place spoils to themselves deep in the final furlong as gambled-on Green Icon (28/1 - 18/1) was more than two lengths away in third. Auburn Avenue (8/1) completed the placings a head further back. Carroll said: Gary Carroll, “My dad (Ray) worked with Robbie’s dad in Dermot Weld’s, so we go a long way back and it’s nice to win this race. “She’s been a frustrating sort as she’s been too keen and missing the break. “She travelled really well and, when you let her down, all she does is gallop. The stiff track here suited her. “She’s always promised a bit more than she has showed, so after getting her head in front hopefully she can improve.” Melbourne Cup winning-rider Robbie Dolan was on hand to make the presentations.
