Tom Cooper on the mark with newcomer New Grange The Tom Cooper-trained New Grange romped to a seven and a half-length success on his racecourse debut in the concluding Paul Moynihan (Ex VFI President) Memorial Flat Race at Listowel. Willie Mullins had no runner in the race and his son Patrick came in for the ride on the 10/11 favourite who eased to the front before the straight and drew right away to win in fine style from Eoin McCarthy’s 12/1 shot Well Bud. Anthony McCann’s Back In Favour, another at odds of 12/1, was eight lengths further away in third place. New Grange was a point-to-point winner at Ballygogue House in County Laois back in February. “We like to have Paddy (riding for us) and we’ve been lucky with him here before. We had a chat between each other and he’s running a horse tomorrow and we ran today, so it worked out,” said Cooper. “Either way, I was happy once it worked out. “My son Bryan bought him, he rode him before he ran in his point-to-point and he was mad about him. “He did two bits of work on the Curragh last month and it was awesome. He was bought to replace the horse I lost last year, Saint Clovis. He was a proper horse, and unfortunately we lost him. Hopefully this fella will replace him.
