Tombelaine has Jersey option

Tombelaine is likely to be dropped back in trip for a shot at the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Dermot Weld-trained colt finished fifth behind Gleneagles on his most recent start in the Irish 2,000 Guineas earlier this month.

Although satisfied with the three-year-old's performance in the mile event, connections are favouring stepping him back to seven furlongs for the Group Three contest on June 17.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "Tombelaine ran a decent race in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. All being well, he will probably now head to Ascot for the Jersey Stakes."

While the Royal meeting is on the agenda for Tombelaine, options are fluid for the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Bragging.

After winning on her reappearance in the Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket, the four-year-old finished a well-held sixth in the Middleton Stakes at York on her most recent start.

Grimthorpe said: "Bragging is fine and there was no reason for her performance at York. She was still a bit wintry in her coat.

"We will see how she does over the next few days. We will look at Royal Ascot, but she is not sure to go there."

Plans also remain up in the air for Remote after the John Gosden-trained winner of the 2013 Tercentenary Stakes failed to make any impact on his first outing since his Ascot triumph in the Festival Stakes at Goodwood a week ago.

Grimthorpe said: "He was disappointing at Goodwood and we have to see how he is and how he comes out of the race, but things do not augur well."
