Tormey's tactics work on Smoke Them Out Jockey Sadhbh Tormey’s forceful tactics on Smoke Them Out (8/1) secured possession of the Curragh’s Nua's Mobile Sensory Units Handicap today, as trainer Tom McCourt’s bargain-buy registered a third success. Bought as a yearling for just €4,000, Smoke Them Out had previously scored at Cork and at today’s venue in recent years and today held on well in the closing stages, for a head success from faster-finishing Tai Tam Bay. McCourt commented “we thought he’d run well, we had a nice bit of work done with him and he acts on that ground. We were in two minds whether to claim off him but took (Tormey’s) 7lb off, as he hadn’t dropped since his last win. “He’s a right old money spinner and an ease in the ground is important.” Regarding Tormey, who had dropped her whip in the final furlong, he added “Sadhbh rides well, she’s improving all the time and is getting a good handle of pace. She’s well used to these horses as rides them all the time. “It’s great to see her getting a couple of winners but I didn’t notice she had dropped her whip until she told me. I had been wondering why she wasn’t picking up the stick but it’s alright once they win!” Quotes from Gary Carson
