Tote and crowd up but bookies down

The attendance and Tote showed increases on the first day of the Galway festival but the bookmakers figures again continued on a downward curve.

The punters in through the gate this year was 279 up with 17,989 attending today as opposed to 17,710 in 2012.

The Tote figure for this year was €608,915.39 which was up €9867.80 from the 2012 return of €599,047.59 .

The bookmakers have been hit hardest in the last few years and the money in the ring this year was €1,233,743 compared to €1,412,595 last term, a fall of €178,852.
