Trean leads home Twomey one-two in Goffs Million Trean led home a one-two for trainer Paddy Twomey as he grabbed the lion’s share of the Goffs Million at the Curragh this afternoon. Trean went to post 9/4 favourite in the seven furlong contest and was held up in the early stages by Billy Lee. He had to sit and suffer for a while before cutting through the field and coming with a strong surge inside the final furlong to deny stablemate Hi Corbett Court for a half-length success. The winner had finished fourth in Group 1 company in the National Stakes here on his last start and Twomey said afterwards:- “That was a good result. Trean is a class horse and was a class act in a conditions race. “I was hoping he’d win but at halfway I wasn’t so sure. “I thought Siobhan’s horse had a chance to run well. I said to her ‘go out and ride to win and see what happens’ and sure she nearly did it. “It’s two syndicates that own them and they were 20 grand and 85 grand. It’s fantastic. “The other horse won a handicap in Sligo off 71 so it was a big step up.” On future plans he added:- “We’ll see. They are after collecting three-quarters-of-a-million there now.” Lee added:- "I was probably a bit further back than I wanted to be, but I probably made a bit too much use out of him in the National Stakes so I didn't mind too much. "I had to sit and suffer for a while but when the gap did start to open, he went straight through it and won well."
