Trumpet makes it a repeat double in mile handicap

Angel’s Trumpet completed an unusual coincidence at Gowran Park when taking division two of the Gowran Festival Of Speed August 21st Handicap. Dunum earlier landed division one of this mile event and the two horses also won both divisions of another 47-65 handicap over course and distance just 19 days ago.

Angel’s Trumpet made all last time and was again never too far from the pace, leading inside the final furlong for Leigh Roche before just holding off the fast-finishing Tashim

The runner-up was supported from 12/1 earlier in the day to go off the 4/1 favourite and supporters can consider themselves unlucky as he repeatedly met interference from two furlongs out before flashing home between horses to be just denied by a head.

The third reserve Shimla Rolann was just a head further back in third, with Pimstrel in fourth.

Winning trainer Peter Fahey said, “That’s as fast as he would want the ground. It wasn’t the strongest of races and that’s what kind of forced us into running him today.

“He’ll tip away in those races and we’ll find something for him in three or four weeks.

“I’m delighted for the syndicate. There were not many of them here the last day and it’s great that a good few of them are here today.

“Most of them are from Galway so it would be a dream if we could end up there.”
