Tryster impresses, Shalaman 4th Tryster showed he is going to be a major player in the middle-distance races this summer when stamping his class on the Coral Easter Classic All-Weather Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes at Lingfield. The pre-race talk concerned where the pace in the race was going to come from and as a hold-up performer that could have been a problem for Charlie Appleby's four-year-old. Sent off the 1-2 favourite there was plenty of pressure on William Buick and he only had one behind him with two furlongs to run. Jim Crowley on Complicit was in the best place when there is no pace - out in front - and he nicked three lengths turning into the straight. But Tryster kicked in the afterburners and ended up winning cosily by three-quarters of a length, with Grendisar third. It completed a treble for Appleby, who has dominated the all-weather season. "That's his running style, we were hacking down the back," said Buick. "I knew it would turn into a sprint, but he can sprint better than most. You'll see a lot more of him. He's got a bright future The lads have done a great job, it's a product of hard work in the winter." Appleby said: "It's fantastic, well done William, it was a fantastic ride, he rode him with so much confidence. "I thought the second had stolen a march, but William knew what he was doing. We'll give him a break now and map out a plan. "There's no reason he won't transfer this form to turf."
