Turf Club Start Curragh Redevelopment

Turf Club Senior Steward Pierce Molony today outlined the timescale for the redevelopment of the Curragh racecourse.

Work has started on re-routing the main road which will be moved to the back of the Stand House hotel. This road will be completed by early April 2007.

A new Grandstand will be built behind the exiting Grandstand after next season?s Oaks meeting.

Part One of the redevelopment will be finished in time for the 2008 Derby and all building work is set to be complete by 2009.

The total redevelopment will cost almost ?100 million.

Mr Molony also noted in relation to jockeys that the stewards have decided to introduce breathalysing from the start of the 2007 flat season.

All jockeys will be breathalysed each day they ride. The limits set will equate to the limit in place for driving.
