Two-Day Declarations Still On Course

Plans to introduce 48-hour declarations for all races on the Flat from July 1 remain on course following a meeting at the British Horseracing Board.

The BHB agreed in principle last month to adopt a two-day declaration system, subject to further discussions between the Horsemen's Group and the racecourses.

Following yesterday's board meeting, BHB chief executive Greg Nichols said: 'A formula for the division of additional income generated by the introduction of 48-hour declarations has been found that the RCA (Racecourse Association) and ROA (Racehorse Owners' Association) representatives are willing to support to their councils, and also the Horsemen's Group in the case of the ROA.

'BHB is continuing to make the necessary arrangements for 48-hour declarations to commence for all Flat races on the originally proposed date of July 1.'

The Horsemen's Group is comprised of the ROA, National Trainers' Federation, Jockeys' Association and Stable Lads' Association, with the organisation having an aim of maximising racing's income.

Those present at the meeting included NTF chief executive Rupert Arnold, RCA chairman David Thorpe and ROA president Chris Deuters.
