Fairyhouse’s rated novice chase over three miles and two furlongs was won by Rokathir who raced in the front rank throughout under Darragh O’Keeffe.

A wide-margin winner at Navan earlier in the month, the seven-year-old had Maxi Mac Gold for company all the way around but jumped better than that rival who was out to his left at many fences.

In fairness to the latter, he proved a tough nut to crack up the straight but Rokathir (5/2 out to 4/1 before the off) was idling in front in the closing stages as he held on to score by a length.

The 5/4 favourite Nelson County tried to mount a challenge after the second-last but could find no extra and came home a further three and three-quarter lengths back in third.

Henry de Bromhead trains the winner for Roger Brookhouse and stable representative Robbie Power commented “He loves that ground, he was very good in Navan.

“He got a big hike, and we had to take a chance coming back so quick after Navan. It wasn’t ideal but there was nothing for him coming up.

“With the ground the way it is, we said we’d roll the dice and chance our arm. Thankfully he’s won.

“His jumping is a huge asset, he’s a fantastic jumper.”
