First-season trainer John O'Donoghue saddled his third winner of the season when Cailin Cliste scored at Fairyhouse last night and afterwards had news of his talented two-year-old Pearling Path.

A winner on his second start at Fairyhouse in May, the Holy Roman Emperor was only collared inside the final furlong by newcomer Holloway Boy when second at 80/1 in last month's Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The £80,000 yearling holds an entry in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend in September.

Reflecting on his charge's near miss at Ascot, O'Donoghue said: "He's in good old order. We're treating him like the winner of the race anyway, we thought we had it done and it didn't quite happen.

“He's come out of it fine and we'll probably go to a Group race, the Tyros Stakes (at Leopardstown on July 21st) is on the agenda.

“He'll be pretty ground dependent as I wouldn't like to run him on anything too juicy. He's a summer ground horse.

“We're so thankful to (owner) Fawzi Nass and (bloodstock agent) Oliver St Lawrence for putting faith in us in our first season. It's always good to get a horse like that.”
