Ulundi set for Dubai trip

English trainer Paul Webber has revealed a surprise change of direction for his smart hurdler Ulundi.

The six-year-old son of Rainbow Quest, who figures prominently in ante-post lists for next year`s Smurfit Champion Hurdle, is unlikely to run again over timber in the near future.

Instead his attentions will be switched back to the Flat with the Dubai Golden Shaheen at Nad Al Sheba next March his first target.

The mile-and-a-half Group Two contest, which is run on turf, takes place on Dubai World Cup day.

'The fact of the matter is that he is a horse who is far better on fast ground,' said Webber. 'I spoke to Simon Crisford (Godolphin racing manager) who knows all there is to know about these things and he thinks we have a good chance of getting into the race.

'His form is solid from when he was second to Hatha Anna and if we don`t get in there then there are races in Singapore in March or May when he should get his ground.

'He`ll never get up the hill at Cheltenham on good to soft ground so this seems the most sensible thing to do.

'At the moment he is having a roll in the mud, enjoying himself, but he is a serious horse.'

Ulundi`s greatest success so far in the winter game came when he won last season`s Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr.
