Unlucky Tramore loser bags Navan’s finale Joseph O’Brien’s Mawhibah (8/1) bounced back from a queasy rollercoaster spin around Tramore with success at Navan today, landing the Racing Again This Saturday Fillies Maiden to give jockey Joey Sheridan a third win in two days. The Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al-Attiyah-owned, Qatari-bred daughter of Australia was a beaten 5/4 favourite at the Tramore festival in August where she misjudged some of the course’s tight bends, before rallying home to finish second. Today, Sheridan, who had a Gowran double yesterday, produced Mawhibah from mid-field in the 21-runner race, to lead inside the final furlong with the pair scoring by a half-length from Sunatia . Sheridan stated “she had to do it the hard way, being drawn that wide in 22. I was able to get a tow from the fancied ones and she grabbed a hold of the bridle in the straight, so hopefully there is more improvement in her. Her stamina came to the fore in the last furlong, coming up the hill. “We went a good even tempo which suited and she was able to show her stamina. “She’s improving and it’s nice to ride a winner for Mohammed (Hamad Khalifa Al-Attiyah) who is also a big supporter of both Joseph, and Denis Hogan.” Quotes from Gary Carson
