Unterberg follows up for Mulligan & Hourigan Successful over an extended mile-and-a-quarter trip last week, Unterberg followed-up in the irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap. Upped to a mile-and-a-half this evening, the Laura Hourigan-trained seven-year-old was returned the 3/1 favourite in the colours of the Novum Racing Club. Racing mainly in second under Rory Mulligan, the bay victor was carried towards the nearside rail entering the straight, but soon edged to the front, keeping on well when ridden to score by a length-and-a-half. A model of consistency, Voice Of Reason (10/3) finished a gallant second under Seamie Heffernan, while Trishuli River (7/2) was a neck away in third. "I wasn't going to run him and my brother Mark told me the race was coming up. There wasn't another race for a month and I'd have to wait a month to run him," Hourigan commented. "He's won a mile and four (furlongs) before and it would probably be his max, maybe, but he's still improving for me. "He is (a stable star) and he is paying his way. I'm delighted for the horse. "Rory's claim is a great help and he rode him as a young horse, he knew him from younger. "I might give him a break now because you would be waiting a month to run him in Dundalk and he won't go on summer soft, he wants good ground." Additional reporting by Michael Graham
