Newly crowned champion apprentice Wayne Hassett was seen to good effect as Unterberg recorded a fourth career win and third at Dundalk in the Bar One Racing Your No.1 Bookmaker Apprentice Handicap.

The Laura Hourigan-trained gelding, available at 9/1 this morning and sent off at 4/1, headed the front-running My Vonnie a furlong out and kept on well to score by a length and a quarter.

My Vonnie kept on after being headed to outrun her odds of 66/1 with the 6/4 favourite Spy a further length and three-quarters back in third.

Hassett said, “He has been a pleasure to ride. He's very uncomplicated once he goes steady and he has his own way. He has a good bit of boot.

"That's what I did today, and he stormed at it, so it was good.

"The ground was a small bit of an issue the last day (in Naas) but, coming up here over 1m4f in this sort of a race, I kind of knew I had it in the bag. It was just whether or not he would perform, but he did it lovely.

"Laura does well with a small string but, I think for her having a nice small string, she looks after her horses even better individually. She's well able to train when she has the few horses she has.

"It was brilliant - I love riding a winner for her."
