Henry de Bromhead's Urabamba powered away from his rivals in the opening maiden hurdle over two miles in Wexford.

The 8/13 favourite proved much too strong as Hugh Morgan sent him on racing to the penultimate flight. The pair moved clear upon touching down and came in by six and a half lengths. Shamiyan (9/2) took second by two and a quarter lengths from Metersandmasks (18/1).

Morgan said: "It was a nice performance and he definitely deserved it. He had a few good runs and it's nice that he eventually got his head in front.

"He enjoyed the ground, travelled well and I'd imagine he will get further. He jumped very well when he warmed up and I was quite happy with him.

"I think I have two more winners left on my 5lb claim. Thank God things are going well."

Banntown Girl and Derrinlaur were notable non runners in this contest.

Urabamba had been placed in two of his previous six hurdle races.
