Vega unlikely to run at Newmarket Blue De Vega is likely to miss the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday week and wait for either the French or Irish equivalent. Trainer Michael O'Callaghan feels his Classic hopeful is not quite ready to begin his campaign following a poor winter and early spring. "We'll probably miss Newmarket. He's took a while to come to hand," said the Curragh handler. "We had a very wet winter and a cold spring and I've always said he'd have to be 100 per cent for us to go to Newmarket. "He's very nearly there but there's no point going to a Guineas unless you are 110 per cent. "We might swerve it and go for the French or the Irish Guineas. "The weather we've had doesn't help horses whatsoever. "We haven't the facilities of Aidan O'Brien either so it's difficult. They have any number of gallops they can use. "The majority of trainers have to sit and suffer and let horses come to themselves. The owner has been very good about it. "The horse is looking fantastic and is very nearly there, but he's 90 per cent rather than 110 per cent." Blue De Vega was around a 14-1 shot for the 2000 Guineas after a highly-promising juvenile campaign that culminated with victory in the Group Three Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown in October.
